An average menstruating person will use 5,000 to 15,000 disposable pads and tampons over their lifetime. Concerns about the environmental sustainability of these single-use products has seen increased attention to the opportunities presented by reusable technologies such as menstrual cups, reusable pads and period underwear. Despite the potential of reusable products to offer both environmental and cost savings, there is limited research to understand young people’s experiences and needs.
This project will explore experiences of reusable menstrual product use among a broad sample of people who menstruate. It will address key gaps in understanding menstrual cup-related discomforts, information and support needs, barriers, and facilitators to use, and experiences with menstrual cup ‘fit’ across a broad population.
Projects can take a quantitative, qualitative or mixed approach.
