Health Systems

Burnet is committed to strengthening health systems in collaboration with Government and non-Government organisations and communities. Health systems strengthening means identifying and implementing changes in policy and practice in a country’s health system, so they can respond better to health and health system challenges at community, primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

Strong, functional health systems need educated, supported and motivated health workers, a well-maintained infrastructure, and a reliable supply of medicines and technologies. They need to be backed by adequate funding, strong health plans and evidence-based policies to support practice. Burnet aims to support these outcomes through community-led research, and programs to increase the capacities of health systems across the Asia-Pacific region.

Burnet develops and applies technical expertise and evidence-based strategies to improve one or more functions of the health system. We explore innovative approaches to health systems, including the central involvement of affected communities in their own care with the goal to achieve better health outcomes for all.

Our work aims to translate into better health through improvements in access, coverage, quality, or efficiency. Explore our impact in: Immunisation and Health Systems Strengthening.
