Project Geldom

Eudaemon Technologies has developed a next-generation condom known as the Geldom. Alongside initial research and development activities undertaken at Swinburne University of Technology and University of Wollongong to develop this next-gen condom, the team also developed new methodologies to assess preference and acceptability of the device.

This project aims to produce a condom that people actually want to use. If achieved this would revolutionise safe sex, STI prevention and family planning.

With funding from the Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund (VMRAF), Burnet Institute and Eudaemon Technologies are currently undertaking a pilot functionality study of the Geldom. The initial phase of this study will assess the safety, acceptability and preference of the Geldom in comparison to a standard commercial condom.

2020-2022

The HIV Prevention group is playing a crucial role in monitoring the outcomes of the PrEPX trial in Victoria. Data collection, including through the ACCESS surveillance system, is monitoring crucial implementation outcomes such as the effectiveness of PrEP and its impact on sexual behaviours and sexually transmitted infections.

We will also monitor the background incidence of HIV among gay men attending PrEP implementation clinics, undertaking world-leading research to measure the impact of rapid PrEP scale-up on background rates of HIV transmission.
