Women

Health outcomes are influenced by gender. Women not only have unique health needs and experiences, but health disparities based on gender are found around the world. Our work focuses on reducing preventable deaths and improving women’s health equity for the benefit of individuals, families and communities.

Around the world women face preventable deaths and diseases, however some communities are at much higher risk than others. For example, you are 80 times more likely to die in childbirth in Papua New Guinea than in Australia.

In both developed and developing nations, inequality and lack of opportunities also have an adverse effect on women’s health, wellbeing and quality of life.

We believe that health equality is a basic human right. Our goal is to save lives by focusing on the unique issues and experiences affecting women’s health and wellbeing, as well as create meaningful change for women around the world.

Our work with women extends across evidence-based research, health interventions and community-based programs.

Our projects include:

  • Accelerating Innovation for Mothers (AIM) 2.0 – a collaborative partnership between Burnet Institute, Concept Foundation and Policy Cures Research to inspire and guide the development of new medicines for obstetric conditions.
  • Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies – a collaborative research program working with district, provincial and national level partners in Papua New Guinea to provide life-saving interventions for women and children.
